“How kind of you, ma’am.” Mrs. Bennet murmured.

The rest of the tea continued in much of the same manner. The Bennet ladies were interrogated minutely but in the most polite way possible. The ladies were much impressed with Jane and Elizabeth and even Mrs. Bennet made several friends amongst the attendees. When the ladies rose to bid their farewells, many promises of invitations were made and Mrs. Bennet promised acceptance to each of them.

“I do hope you were not offended by their inquisitiveness.” Lady Matlock tidied the tea tray after the last of the ladies had left.
